Workshop Level: Intermediate: Able to design and create simple projects with minimal guidance; trained on all studio equipment. Must be able to fit pieces to a pattern and foil.

Learn to Solder - You will be providing your own glass. You will pick up the patterns in the studio before class. Your envelope of patterns and bevels will be at the studio front desk by March 10. You will be provided 2 patterns. One pattern is working with curves while the other pattern is working with straight lines. The straight-line pattern has a bevel in it which will be provided at a cost of $6. All pieces need to be cut, ground, fit to pattern and foiled before class. When grinding pieces, put your pattern into a frame. Stay within the pattern lines. Bring extra glass and foil in case pieces need to be redone. Be sure to come to class with everything ready to solder. Any questions be sure to call me. The finished soldered pieces will be made into a spinner or a 6 block hanging piece, your choice. Two different soldering techniques will be demonstrated. Check out the supply list as to what to bring. Then it is practice, practice practice!

General supplies to bring to class:

  • Glass cutting tools: Toyo Cutter, Running Pliers, Grozers, Nippers, Cutting Surface (Quilt-type mats work best)
  • Soldering items: solder, flux, applicators, frames, push pins
  • Writing Tools: Black Sharpies (fine and regular). Silver Marker
  • Other helpful items: A carrying box for projects
