ALL LEVEL WORKSHOP

Learn to use the vitrigraph kiln to make your own Twisted cane while using up some of your scrap glass.

This class with make Yellow and Red twisted cane. Students supply 1/2 c. Yellow scrap glass (mixed opaque and Transparent), 1/2 c. Red scrap glass (mixed opaque and Transparent), and 1/2 c. clear scrap glass. All glass must be clean COE 96 and cut into approximately 1" pieces. Put your glass in separate a zip lock bags with your name on it and place it in the box marked "Vitrigraph Class" in the Ramada by noon THE SATURDAY BEFORE CLASS. The box will be on the table to the left of the door into the Ramada.

Class meets in the Ramada.

Wear closed toe shoes, a long sleeve cotton shirt, long pants (jeans work best). If you have long hair, it must be tied back away from your face.

Bring safety glasses, Nippers and a carry box to take your stringers home.

Whether you are a new member or a member who is a bit rusty and needs a refresher course, please join us for this training to learn all about the ring saw. We will discuss the various blades that are available and when and how to use them.

You will learn to cut intricate patterns in glass for your art projects. We will discuss the difference between our various blades; regular, slim, diachroic, mega, and speed blades, as well as when and how to use them.

(They may not all be in operation at the time of your training, but we will discuss and answer questions about the various ones.)

This training will also include step-by-step instruction on how to clean the machines after you have used them.

You may bring a project to practice your cutting. We will provide scrap glass and patterns for you to practice on.

This equipment training does not count toward the one-workshop-per-month.

SG Learn to Solder 04/28, 05/19 & 05/20 @ 9:30 - 12:30 pm (04/28/2026)

Workshop Level: Intermediate: Able to design and create simple projects with minimal guidance; trained on all studio equipment. Must be able to fit pieces to a pattern and foil.

April 28 - For this class you will need your cutting tools, frames, pins, working board, and glass. Look at the picture of the two projects. You will make one project into a spinner and the other project a flat hanging piece. Decide what color(s) you want to use. We will only be constructing one square from each pattern. The flat pictured project is 3.5 X 3.5 while the spinner is 3.75 X 4. The straight-line pattern has bevels in it which will be provided at a cost of $6. We are looking for accurate cutting, fitting and staying within the pattern. Nothing will be soldered this day. After this class you will have three weeks to cut and fit the other 5 panels for each project.

May 19/20 - For these classes you will bring all your cut, fit and foiled pieces in their individual baggies (this will be explained April 28). You will need your board to pin project to, frames, push pins, flux, solder, heat proof glove or a towel. We will learn various soldering methods and then practice, practice, practice. You can bring your own soldering iron. Pieces will be assembled.

General supplies to bring to class:

Glass cutting tools: Toyo Cutter, Running Pliers, Grozers, Nippers, Cutting Surface (Quilt-type mats work best)
Soldering items: solder, flux, applicators, frames, push pins

INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED WORKSHOP

Create an elegant or whimsical tree from clear or colored transparent glass and mount it on a mesquite block for a one-of-a-kind statement. This is a 3 DAY CLASS for intermediate and advanced artists with some skill on the ring saw.

DAY 1: You will use your photo or tree design that is no larger than 7x9 inches to draw on a sheet of clear, COE96 glass. You will cut the trunk and main branches with the ring saw and construct your tree on a 9x12 inch tile. (1st firing) Then you will use your clear scrap glass (or your transparent colored glass) to make medium-large frit using the thermal shock method. You will also choose your mesquite base to take home to sand and lacquer. Spray lacquer is easiest to use. Make sure your base is dried and ready to bring back on Day 3.

DAY 2: You will apply your frit to the tree and construct "leaf litter'' for the ground surrounding your tree. (2nd firing)

DAY 3: Bring your prepared mesquite base. You will use a Dremel tool to make a small groove in the mesquite base for your tree trunk. Then you will assemble and epoxy your tree and leaf litter in place.

12x12 inch sheet of COE96 clear glass

(Optional) additional transparent colored glass for frit leaves

(1) 6x6" tile (your own or check out from studio)

You can use pieces of glass that make a bird that looks like a real bird or one that is a bird of fun colors.

This is the Volunteer Signup to sort SWAG orders for this month - First Friday of the month. This is only being sent to the group of people who have expressed interest in assisting. We are limiting signups to avoid having too many people resulting in a backup in the process.

The start time is fluid, we get a text from SWAG when they are about 20-30 minutes away. Expect that time to be somewhere between 11 and 2. We aim to be completed with the sorting of the order by 3pm when the studio closes.

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL WORKSHOP

Let's get together to make a fused mini windchime and learn how to hang it on driftwood with beaded chimes.

You need to bring on day one:

* your own design idea

* One 5" x 4" clear base and 5 clear 1/2” x 3" chimes for your artwork (maximum sizes).

* COE 96 glass scraps for your design

* all of your glass cutting tools - Toyo cutter, Running pliers, Grozers, Nippers

* cutting surface (waffle grid)

* hairspray and Elmer’s glue

* a 6” x 6” tile and Papyros for firing your pieces; you pay firing fee

* P-100 Mask, Safety Glasses, closed-toe shoes, band-aids

Bring on day two:

Beads if you have them, some will be provided.

Needle nose pliers

Please cut your pieces of clear as noted above prior to class.

If you have specific bead colors in mind for your design, please bring them as we don’t have a large selection. Otherwise, we will supply hooks and leather for hanging your project, the nichrome loops, barrel spinners, crimps and hanging wire for the chimes, and the driftwood for hanging your artwork. Also, bring your scrap glass and embellishments for making your base piece and chimes. Some scrap glass will be provided.

There will be a $10 fee payable to the instructors at the beginning of the workshop to cover these expenses.

Plan to pay your own firing fees on first day, you can use a tile for firing chimes if you want (don’t forget firing paper).

Remember to wear closed toe shoes and bring safety glasses.

In this workshop you will learn how to use fiber paper to help design a pocket vase.

The fiber paper helps create a space between your base and the vase shape.The vase will be clear with a design using opaque and/or transparent embellishments such as scrap glass, dots, stringers, frit, etc. The instructors will also provide embellishment materials for those who need them. You can look for some design ideas by looking at Pinterest under “Fused Pocket Vases”.

You must bring the following materials to this workshop:

* a 12”x12” sheet of clear COE 96 glass

* any embellishment materials you have (scrap glass, dots, frit, stringers, etc.)

* a sheet of papyros (kiln) paper (available at our studio store)

* a 3”x6” piece of 1/4” thick fiber paper (available in our studio store)

* a 12” ruler

* bring $5 to cover the firing fee (The actual cost will depend on the pattern size you choose for your vase, but it

will be less than $5.)

In this workshop you will learn the basic techniques for cutting mosaic glass pieces or tesserae and assembling your first mosaic project. You will create a colorful mosaic on flagstone while learning how to use many other substrates and materials in the process. There will be an assortment of patterns to choose from.

Glass and flagstone will be provided by the club. The club will also provide the tools to use in this workshop.

INTERMEDIATE WORKSHOP

Let’s get together to make a fused glass wind chime and learn how to hang it on your choice of cholla, Diamond Willow or driftwood, with beaded chimes.

You need to bring on day one:

* your own design idea

* One 6" x 4" clear base and 5 clear 3/4” x 4” chimes for your artwork (maximum sizes).

* COE 96 glass scraps for your design

* all of your glass cutting tools - Toyo cutter, Running pliers, Grozers, Nippers

* cutting surface (waffle grid)

* hairspray and Elmer’s glue

* a 6” x 6” tile and Papyros for firing your pieces; you pay firing fee

* Safety Glasses, closed-toe shoes, band-aids

Bring on day two:

Beads if you have them, some will be provided.

Needle nose pliers

Please cut your pieces of clear as noted above prior to class.

If you have specific bead colors in mind for your design, please bring them as we don’t have a large selection. Otherwise, we will supply hooks and leather for hanging your project, the nichrome loops, barrel spinners, crimps and hanging wire for the chimes, and the wood for hanging your artwork. Also, bring your scrap glass and embellishments for making your base piece and chimes. Some scrap glass will be provided.

There will be a $10 fee payable to the instructors at the beginning of the workshop to cover these expenses.

Plan to pay your own firing fees on first day, you can use a tile for firing chimes if you want (don’t forget firing paper).

Remember to wear closed toe shoes and bring safety glasses.

Workshop level: Beginners in Stain Glass

This workshop is for club members who have joined through mosaics or fused glass and would also like to learn the techniques for stained glass.

You will be taught the copper foiling method and soldering stained glass in this two-day workshop. You will create a 6 x 8” stained glass teardrop sun catcher

You must bring your safety glasses and wear closed toe shoes.

Beginner: Learning how to cut basic shapes and follow a line; familiar with basic tools and supplies. Fusers understand full, contour, tack, slump firing programs.

This class is for members who joined through Mosaics and Stained Glass only. You learn how to fuse glass into a Birdhouse. All tools and glass are provided for this class only

GVR Glass Art Club Annual Meeting

Come celebrate the end of the year at the Glass Artists Club Annual Meeting and social Saturday December 11, 2026 in the Anza Room at Santa Rita Springs GVR Center, right above our studio.

Please bring an appetizer or dessert of your choice if you want. Club provides water and coffee, anything else please BYOB.

We will have our annual reports with slides, results of the board of directors election, volunteer recognition, and door prizes throughout the afternoon of a collection of amazing items, including gifts from our generous friends at Southwest Art Glass.

Parking is available above and behind our complex with a bridge leading directly to the Anza Room upstairs.

We will be collecting non-perishable food for our local food banks to help our neighbors in need, dog and cat food is also needed. A collection bin is in lobby of our studio now and day of meeting we will have collection boxes available in the Anza Room.

Looking forward to seeing all our new and existing members to have fun and celebrate!
